About BetCity
BetCity.nl went live on 2 October 2021 as one of the first ten operators licensed when the Netherlands opened its regulated online market. Built as a distinctly Dutch brand by BetEnt B.V., it quickly became one of the country's leading online casinos, notable for live-dealer tables hosted by Dutch-speaking croupiers.
The site combines more than 550 slots with table games, jackpots and a Kambi-powered sportsbook under its Kansspelautoriteit licence. Entain agreed to buy BetEnt from Sports Entertainment Media in 2022 for an initial €300m — with earn-outs taking the potential total to €850m — and completed the acquisition in January 2023, restoring its presence in the Dutch market. Entain explored options for several non-integrated brands including BetCity during a 2024 strategic review, but no sale followed and the brand remained in Entain's European portfolio as of mid-2026.
The stock behind BetCity is Entain plc (LSE: ENT), owner of bwin, Ladbrokes and Coral. The Dutch market has proved demanding for its listed parent: the KSA fined BetCity €2.65m over young-adult protection failures dating to 2021-2023 (upheld in 2025), and rising Dutch gambling taxes have squeezed growth across the licensed sector.
